Before writing who is my role model lets know what is a role model and why is it important. A role model is a person who other people want to be like, either in present or future. They are important as they motivate a person to do hard work to achieve something like them. My role model is the one and only APJ Abdul Kalam.
Let’s know about my role model. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, to a Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram on Pamban Island, then in Madras and then at last in the state of Tamil Nadu. His father Jainulabudden was a boat owner and the Imam/the worship leader of a local mosque. His mother Ashiamma was a housewife. He was the youngest of four brothers and one sister in his family. His ancestors were wealthy landowner and traders. Their business had involved trading groceries between the Mainland and the Island, trading between Island and Sri Lanka, and carried pilgrims between Mainland and Island. Due to the opening of the Pamban Bridge, their business failed and the family properties were lost over time. He had to sell newspapers to increase his family income. In his school, he was an average student but he had a great desire to learn. He completed his education at Schwartz Higher Secondary school. From there to Saint Joseph’s College and then in the University of Madras, from where he graduated in physics. Then he studied aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology. He missed achieving his dream by one rank. He was at the 9th rank and only top 8 were going to be selected to be fighter pilot in IAF. Then he joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of Defense Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) as a scientist. Then he went to Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) where he was the project director of India’s first satellite launch vehicle. He made many contributions to ISRO. In 2002 he became the 11th president of India. While his presidential time, he made the economy of India better.
He is my role model as he could achieve so much in life in spite of the poor economic conditions during his childhood. He taught me the importance of hard work among many other things.
